Having different JRE versions [message #463904] Tue, 20 February 2007 04:49 Go to next message

Hi,

Eclipse 3.2 recommends JRE 1.4.2_10.
There are many users who would like to upgrade to a newer
JRE version, which is probably required by other applications.
How is such a case handled?

Even though there are multiple JRE's installed, can we tell the Eclipse
launcher to use a specified version?
How is that done?

Thanks,
Delicia.

Hi Delicia,

I run Eclipse 3.2 on Java 1.5, and I ran it on Java 1.6 and there were
no problems.
You can tell the launcher which version to use by -vm option in the
command line when running Eclipse (for options look here
http://help.eclipse.org/help21/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse. platform.doc.user/tasks/running_eclipse.htm).

I hope this help you :)

regards,
Jakub Jurkiewicz

Thanks, Jakub & Michal.

I too haven't seen problems on my machine with Java 1.5
Another user however, reported a crash (JVM terminated exit
code=1073807364). I'm trying to figure out possible causes.
The link you've given is useful.

Thanks again,
Delicia.

I think 1.5 is fully supported on 3.2. I have not read anywhere that it
was not supported.

I too have run the Eclipse on JRE 1.5 and it works fine. However i got a problem while running the application in Internet Explorer.

We have installed JRE 1.5.0_10 on our XP machines. While running the application on IE, after logging, the applet opens but doesn't by default gets displayed onto the screen. We have to manualy select it i.e it hides behind the application already opened, doesn't itself shows up.

The same is not a case in machines with version 1.4.2_07. Moreover while opening the application with Eclipse, no such problem is encountered so not able to debug.

Are there some settings to be done at the IE level. Please suggest.
