Is there an easy configuration setting to get the report engine to delete
the temporary .fo files?

These are created as temp files in Java and will be deleted when the app
server restarts. Unfortunately, this won't help you in most cases. For
now, you can safely create another process to remove such files if they
are old enough (5 minutes old). We will fix this soon.
