Heya folks.

Been using pdt v1 for over a couple of years now and really liked it. So i
downloaded the latest all-in-one package and am having some real problems
with code assist / autocomplete, which causes eclipse to hang for ages,
the last time was over 40 minutes.

Basically it is triggered whenever i type "$this->" - it just freezes and
eclipse usually doesn't respond. It's basically unusable.

I have windows xp sp3 with an intel 1.8ghz (32 bit) with 1.2 gb of RAM and
a 60gig hd. This evening i downloaded the latest version of Java, but it
made no difference.

I disabled automatic code assist, so it only appears when i press ctrl +
space, and that's what usually triggers it. I've also got a message about
the completioncomputer running out of time, and to disable type returns or
something.

Please tell me this is a config issue, as i need this for work.

Tony,

This is indeed an issue many have reported experiencing across multiple
platforms. For example, I use Fedora GNU/Linux on my laptop which has a
2GHz Pentium M CPU - not blindingly fast. And yet, the performance I
get under PDT is less than for older versions, as you've cited.

For me, the issue is particularly pronounced on larger projects, such as
my companies customized version of Moodle. On very small projects with
only a few dozen files or less, the problem is less severe.

I basically have to run with autocompletion disabled to be able to work.

For what it's worth, 2.1.1 is supposed to have a fix addressing this
issue, but I have not yet tried this out.

Just to make a note here that the Eclipse PDT and DLTK teams are working
these days on important performance issues regarding the issues raised
here.

You will be able to see it fixed on the 2.2 head work.

Stay tuned for the next integration build :)

Thanks for the replies. I'm kind of relieved it's not just my setup then,
but also a little dismayed that such a bug could get into a release. I've
reverted back to 1.0.3 until this bug is fixed. Thanks for giving me the
heads-up for 2.2 - when is that expected?

Well this is indeed excelent news.
I am one of those guys, testing almost every new pdt release and - still
using the "good old" 1.03 for critical projects..

Please keep us informed - i don't care if its 2.1 or 2.2...

Regards,
Nikolai
