Hi everybody,

we are currently investigating wether SWT is a toolkit of choice for us
to switch too. So far, SWT wins in all areas we have to address in our
current Swing application. Motivation for the switch is, that version 3
might be based on RCP and also the higher performance in general.

But, we have a severe issue: Fonts.

We basically need to be able to do the following stuff with fonts:

- scale vertical (done in swt, but no support for fractional point values)

- scale horizontal (no, support at all, but definitely a must have)

- read out and use rendering hints (not supported at all, but also not a
must for us)

Can any developer, as far as they are reading this group, answer the
question whether this will be possible, is possible at all and a rough
estimation on when it is dealt with? I am willing to provide developing
power from my team for this, if any resources are needed. But I also
admit, that we are quite skilled with Java and SWT already, but we
haven't so far looked at the underlying JNI code in SWT.

The background for this question is, that we are developing a layout and
wysiwyg editing system for newspapers, which is already running under
swing, but we have some severe performance bootle necks inside swing for
such an application. The tests with SWT so far proved to be the better
road to walk.

Best regards,
Oliver
