Hi,

I have installed Eclipse 3.0.1, JDK 1.4.2-05, as root, under windows XP
pro.
This installation has to be used by students who are not logged as root.
The launch of Eclipse fails: "can't write log file XXXXX.log"
How can I correct this problem?
Does Eclipse can be runned under windows without being root ?

Thanks for your answers.

That's incorrect, and I wouldn't suggest it either.

If the eclipse directory is hard-readonly, than it will create a directory
%HOME%/.eclipse and write it's configuration/logfile there.

Works fine here, I suspect the original poster has another problem (since
he's already logged in as root). Run eclipse with the -consoleLog parameter
and post the results to the right newsgroup (not this one ;)).
