Hello,
I'm using Eclipse 2.1 on a Redhat 9 Linux platform with JDK 1.4.1_02 from
Sun. I just want to say how much I like the platform but lately it's been
giving me fits.
I experience frequent crashes at least and at most once a day. I can live
with this because up until now I simply restart and continue on - no
problem.
Except for just tonight, after the crash I get the following error on
restarting the platform:
"Problems during startup. Check the ".log" file in the ".metadata"
directory of your workspace."
Fortunately I'm able to recover from this error by deleting my .metadata
directory in my workspace but now need to reconfigure everything to get
back to getting my work done. But my biggest concern is the relative
frequency with which Eclipse appears to be crashing.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with these regular crashes on
Redhat, or any other Linux distro?
Thanks,
John

Note: *Everyone* who sees crashes, frequent or otherwise, regardless of
the platform, should post bugzilla reports describing the circumstances
and configuration of their system in as much detail as possible.
If you are seeing a crash that we do not see, the only way to get it
solved is to give us enough information to find it.

Another useful detail you can add to the bugzilla report is any information
contained in your .log file located under the .metadata area. Often there is
a stack trace in there which will be very useful to us for solving this
problem.
