Equinox was conceived and executed as an incubator for runtime technology in
Eclipse. There are many open questions remaining. For example, security,
scalability and dynamic behaviour. There are people lining up to work on
various aspects of these so the current plan is to keep Equinox alive. To
date the model has worked quite well.
