Hi Eike,

we finished our proof-of-concept (everything worked perfectly smooth
:-)) and I can start contributing stuff back. What about the server
setup howto (into the user wiki)? You already started an empty document
and I cannot edit it, so I'll probably start a new one. I saw the posts
of another user that promised to contribute this guide. I could post my
version and he could enhance it further.
The second step for us (Puzzle) is to plan our contribution to CDO.
Puzzle is willing to allow me to spend up to 60% of my working time on
contributions to CDO. We currently discuss the schedule and the details
of this engagement. I'll get back to you with different proposals I
could work on (I currently see the following components: an enhanced
editor, client-side database migration, server-side runtime data import
facilities). Do you see any other topics I could be of any help to CDO?

Cheers
André

Hi André,

I'm not sure, maybe that "other user" was me.
I started writing the library tutorial for CDO but because of lack of
time I did not get far.
Anyway, I think Eike agrees here that any kind of contribution to the
documentation is more than welcome.
So please do go on and I'd surely like to go over it and maybe
contribute some of my knowledge as well ...

Cheers,
Stefan

I'm glad to hear that!

Hey, I'm even more glad to hear this ;-)

Do you mean this one: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Setting_up_a_CDO_Server ?
I think you should be able to edit this stub after you logged in. Does
that really not work?

Since there are so many ways to setup a CDO server it might also be a
good idea to leave the above stub as a placeholder for an index to
different tutorials.
I'd suggest to add to
http://wiki.eclipse.org/User_Contributed_CDO_Documentation and let me
link it to the first page, too.

I saw that Stefan already got in contact with you. It's really nice to
see you working hand in hand!

Wow!!! Given you have no part time job that's near to the time I'm
spending for Eclipse.org ;-)
Greetings to your boss. I remember well the nice talk I had with him the
other day in one of the "Beizls" of Bern.

It's a good start to think about your own requirements and file
enhancement requests for them.
You might also want to browse the list of un-assigned enhancement requests:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?bug_file_loc= ;bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr;bug_id=;bug_severity=enhan cement;bug_status=UNCONFIRMED;bug_status=NEW;bug_status=REOP ENED;bugidtype=include;chfieldfrom=;chfieldto=Now;chfieldval ue=;classification=Modeling;component=CDO;component=Net4j;em ail1=;email2=;emailtype1=substring;emailtype2=substring;fiel d-1-0-0=classification;field-1-1-0=product;field-1-2-0=compo nent;field-1-3-0=bug_status;field-1-4-0=bug_severity;field0- 0-0=noop;keywords=;keywords_type=allwords;long_desc=;long_de sc_type=allwordssubstr;product=EMF;query_format=advanced;rem action=;short_desc=;short_desc_type=allwordssubstr;status_wh iteboard=;status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr;type-1-0-0=a nyexact;type-1-1-0=anyexact;type-1-2-0=anyexact;type-1-3-0=a nyexact;type-1-4-0=anyexact;type0-0-0=noop;value-1-0-0=Model ing;value-1-1-0=EMF;value-1-2-0=CDO%2CNet4j;value-1-3-0=UNCO NFIRMED%2CNEW%2CREOPENED;value-1-4-0=enhancement;value0-0-0= ;votes=;query_based_on=

Please come back at any time so that we can discuss new assignments.
If you can really manage to spend so much time on contributions and if
their quality matches your own high expectations I suspect that will
have to talk about a committer election process soon ;-)

Cheers
/Eike

Hi Stefan

yep, I meant you, good to have a name now ;-)
Sounds perfect. I'll start some documentation and I'd be more than glad
to get you additions.

Cheers
André

it looked to me like I couldn't (did I overlook any edit-link?). Adding
?action=edit to the URL puts me into the editor... everythings fine!

okay... so I'll put something like 'setting up a CDO server - a quickstart'

Those greets got answered! We were very pleased to have you and all

great! I submitted those ideas and I'll submit feature requests
according to our needs. It looks like the most needed features are
- a better editor
- a db-migration infrastructure
I'll keep you posted...

wow!! great! Puzzle seems very determined to get involved into eclipse
seriously and CDO's the most interesting project for us (it matches our
long term goals in getting rich clients done faster and getting
knowledge in MDA). I'm very confident that I'll be able to contribute
the 60% working time.

Cheers

The "Edit" link must be on the left side bar. Maybe you're not logged in?

I'm looking forward to review it.
Just drop me note when you're finished.

Cheers
