This is a follow-up to a recent discussion on the foundation newsgroup.
I took the liberty of starting a new topic on the wiki:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/EMF-recipes

The idea is to fill it with recipes for common needs people have when
using EMF. I just added one recipe to it so far (for generating API that
does not depend on EMF), mostly a copy and paste of a post to a recent
thread in this newsgroup (which I believe is automatically covered by
the EPL). BTW, feel free to improve it, it might not be 100% correct or
as easy to understand as it should.

I think the cookbook format is great for instructions on how to perform
tasks or achieve specific results. It promotes a writing style that goes
straight to the point while being thorough just enough so the reader can
most of times get what he needs by just reading the recipe. It basically
makes writing and reading easier.

I hope others will keep adding recipes there so it will expand to a
collection of topics, and hopefully one day we will build a significant
mass of reference documentation for people using EMF.

Cheers,

Rafael

Rafael,

That's an excellent idea. Thanks! The one time last week when I wanted
to use the wiki the Eclipse wiki site was down. Go figure! I've added
some more details to what you got started...

Great stuff, Ed! You added a few things that I didn't know about then,
so putting the time to start the topic and write the first recipe has
paid off for me already! Thanks for supporting the suggestion.

Rafael

Rafael,

I really appreciate when anyone makes an effort to contribute. I think
this is what a good community is all about. If everyone is willing to
contribute even just a little bit for the things that matter most to
them, I and others will be that much more motivated to do a little as
well, and in the end, all the little bits add up to a lot of benefit for
the whole community. So thanks you for following up your constructive
criticisms with constructive actions!!
