Hi all,
I am trying to run Eclipse on a machine running Suse Linux 9.1, which
seems to ship with Sun's Java 1.4 JDK I have been able to successfully
launch Eclipse this way, but no plugins, wizards, etc appear. For
example, after I create a new project, there is no File->New->Class
option available.
When I attempt to use -configuration option to specify the config.ini
file found in the configuration directory, I get a null pointer
exception. Unfortunately I can't reproduce the specific messages
produced the by exception because I'm at work now, but I was wondering
if anyone has seen anything like this, and if so how they resolved it.
Otherwise, I'll post the the exceptions tonight.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm using eclispe (GTK and Motif) on Suse 9.1 and 9.2 without any problems.
Ensure you've installed the eclipse *sdk*...
AFAIK it doesn't make any difference whether you are using the
IBM or the SUN runtime.

If yours is working fine, have you ever had an unexpected crash (Exit
code=255) where you lose all changes? That's what I'm getting, and no
relevant action that causes it. Just happens after a while. --jeffs
