As Randy indicated, there is an "integrated" version of the Agent Controller
planned for TPTP 4.1 release that is partially written in java. But, the
AC's use of shared memory and named pipes, requires the use of C/C++ to
access the necessary system API for this functionality. Therefore, you
still have porting to deal with in this version. (The integrated version of
the AC expects that the profiled application must be running on the same
system as the workbench, because the AC runs in the same process as the
workbench.)
Please note that the Agent Controller as it exists today will be replaced
with a re-designed version in TPTP 4.2. The new AC was introduced in 4.0 as
a technology preview. In 4.1 it has matured, and in 4.2 it is expected to
replace the existing AC (allowing time for porting existing tools).
The new AC has already been ported to the Itanium and EM64T 64-bit processor
platforms (Windows and Linux). Plans for 4.2 are not fixed yet, but an AMD
64-bit port is on the list of possible ports to get done then - depending on
resources.
