FMI based cosimulation [message #1866855] Sun, 09 June 2024 06:29 Go to next message

I have been trying to reproduce the FMI tutorial (https://wiki.eclipse.org/Papyrus/UserGuide/ModelExecution) with no success .

I know that papyrus dropped support for FMI (profile and simulation) in papyrus moka so no longer included in the latest update, but it possible to get it using older versions (like moka 2.x.x, 3.x.x and 4.0.0) but the problem is that i always get errors when starting the model execution and i can't see the animation nor the simulation. Besides, the debug configuration gets stuck and i can't even stop the broken simulation until i restart eclipse.

The error i get when starting the debug configuration is "Unhandled event loop exception" and "Uncaught exception during post-commit "( the log file are attached ti this comment).

I tried with many versions of eclipse: neon, oxygen, 201809, 201903 Eclipse Paprys RCP2020, 2023 (see the attached image ) with different papyrus and moka versions. I'm doing this for over a year with no luck (i was previously trying to get ALF to fUML but i gave up).

Can anyone you please suggest a configuration of eclipse/papyrus/moka that will get the FMI working properly

If a feature is not supported, my piece of recommendation is to give up the attempts to revitalize the "old eclipse environment" which would support the feature as a basis.

Eclipse-plugins-hell is much more painful than msvc's dll hell.
I say this with the real life experience of having trashed value time of my life in the similar attempts.

This is a generic eclipse problem (not specific to papyrus) which is unsolved andi beleive it will never be solved because of the distributed and extremely complicated nature eclipse rcp.

Please do not read this as a discouragement to your purpose, rather take it as a friendly tip.

If you would spend 2-3 man-months on trying to fix the old environment, and give up not achieving it in the end, you can undertstand why i write this.

I think it would be much easier to reach out to papyrus developers trying to convince them to further develop the feature. If you don't think this problem cannot be that tragic, try fixing the tool and see the result for yourself.

I hope it was visible that i am only trying to avoid you wandering through that eclipse plugins hell.

Hi Furkan,

Thank you for your response! and I don't see it as discouragement at all, it actually makes me realize I should have done this months ago - it would have saved me so much time and effort.

I will try to reach out to the developer. I've invested a lot of time and effort, and I'm just a few steps away from achieving my goals.

cheers,
Youcef B.
