Papyrus as a Maven artifact? [message #1862966] Mon, 08 January 2024 17:41 Go to next message

Have the Papyrus team by chance considered again the opportunity of publishing Papyrus as a library that Java developers can use easily in projects unrelated to Eclipse (that is, as a Maven artifact)?

(I am sorry to bother if things have not changed as I have asked this question already, but it's now almost three years ago and Maven central is more than ever the de-facto standard for open source artifacts, and Eclipse is slightly losing market shares among Java developers, so I have some hope that the position of the team could have since evolved in order to extend its user basis.)

I guess the answer will be the same as almost 3 years ago.

BTW, what do you want to achieve?

Thanks for the reply!

I would like to create a small Java program that uses Papyrus as a library to manipulate UML model files; similar to the way a program can use an SVG library to draw stuff, or a spreadsheet library to manipulate ODS or XLSX files.

Dear Olivier,

as you mention that you use Papyrus to "draw", do use the Papyrus diagrams (i.e. not only the semantic UML model) and manipulate the view model programmatically? We published maven artifacts for the Papyrus extension SW designer in [1], but the artifacts are already a bit old. We are reluctant to do that for the main Papyrus project, as it it might imply additional maintenant effort.

Best

Having a proper UML model (out of which the drawings are derived) is a crucial part of my reasons to use Papyrus rather than any one of the numerous APIs out there to draw UML diagrams. I appreciate that Papyrus takes UML seriously by defining models, not just circles and boxes.

(I mentioned drawing just to make a parallel to any other use of an API to obtain results, whether graphical or different.)
