SysML Diagram Frames? [message #1857939] Tue, 07 March 2023 08:56 Go to next message

Hi all,
Working through a Cameo course online and trying to perform many of the functions in Papyrus as well. Missing feature is diagram frames. There is a bug report from way back in 2017 but I didn't see any updates on it.
Is it possible to implement frames in diagrams?
Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry but it is not planned to implement it in Papyrus.

Thanks!

I see several notifications coming in from bugzilla now that it won't be developed however, there doesn't seem to be any reason for not implementing a required feature of SysML. Does anyone know why it isn't being developed?

Hi Rod,

some questions on the topic, just out of curiosity.

I know, even though diagram frames are optional in UML 2.x, the SysML 1.6 specification officially requires these diagram frames.

But what are diagram frames good for?

I personally never missed diagram frames the last 2 decades working with UML / SysML.

What is your specific use case that requires diagram frames?

Thanks for the reply Carsten,

Basically, our enterprise is using Cameo for a ton of UAF work. I have been trying to duplicate what the Cameo group is doing using Papyrus.
I, personally, don't need frames. My two concerns were: 1. The specification requires them. 2. Cameo follows the standard.

My question about the why no frames was just to try and understand the industry and their view of frames. Was papyrus not doing them because the standard was going to remove them as required? Or, because industry didn't need/want them? Or, because it was just too difficult for little gain.

Much of this journey has been trying to figure out how to do UAF, in general, but also how to do UAF at an enterprise level based on how our enterprise is using UAF.

Thanks!
Rod
