Eclipse continually hung (hourglass cursor) after asking to delete .cache/m2e [message #1856953] Tue, 10 January 2023 12:59 Go to next message

I installed 2022-12 a few weeks ago, it's been working well enough. When I've been starting it, it prompts me to delete "~/.m2/repository/.cache/m2e" as that isn't used anymore. As I was working through some issues with this version, I selected "Keep Cache" until today. Today, I clicked on "Delete Cache", and I'm sorry I did.

Very soon after I clicked that, the hourglass cursor appeared and never went away. I've restarted Eclipse a few times, I've tried renaming the "m2e" directory in "~/.m2/repository/.cache" to make it think it's gone, but no matter what, when I restart Eclipse, after a few seconds it goes into "hung mode" and greys out the window.

I've inspected the Eclipse error log, and there is nothing significant there.

I'm attaching a thread dump from visualvm.

I was able to reinstall Eclipse and create a new workspace and proceed to get it set up again. It will take a while to reimport everything. Now that the .m2e/cache directory is gone, perhaps I won't run into that problem again. I assume that by starting the process of deleting the cache, it put something into a state that deadlocks.

Unfortunately, after reimporting all of my repositories and starting to work again, the deadlock happened again. I guess I'm going to give up on 2022-12 and revert back to 2022-06, the last version I didn't have any problems like this.
