List of IEC 61499 Function Blocks [message #1851058] Fri, 25 March 2022 16:44 Go to next message

"The IEC 61499 Function Block Standard: Overview of the Second Edition" article and books by Prof. Alois Zoitl are helping to educate us readers. I was looking to see if there is an IEC 61499 Function Blocks library for 4diac, similar to "Basic IEC 61131-3 Functions".
I would like to see this group to develop a list of FBs to accomplish everything Controls Engineers are doing today (In USA) with IEC 61133-3 Ladder Logic and Function Blocks. I am visualizing as the list including algorithm is submitted to a group of experts for further study and trials, then publicized through technical media such as IEEE, ISA and publishing articles in Controls Engineering, Instrument Engineering and alike magazines.

I said (In USA) because I don't really know if Ladder Logic programming is so common in other countries. In USA the electrician can easily read Ladder Logic. However the new generation is grown with computers and that's why I see a good future for the Function Block programming. At present I don't know level of awareness and knowledge of IEC 61499 and rarely seen articles on popular engineering magazines.

I assume each user company also, would develop an additional library of in house special /needed function blocks.
Who would develop original "Library of IEC 61499 Function Blocks", 4diac?, or PLC and Embedded resource providers?
That would be built on top of IEC 61133-3 Function Block Library.?
What happens if a FB , provided by one party or created by a user, is designed to share multiple resources, but one of the resources does not support that FB,? could it happen?
Is it going to be difficult to keep the "built in-house FBs" from problems such as infinite loop, divide by zero errors, etc ? I guess we need to teach our designers some Structural Text programming.
