Version Support Info [message #1850553] Tue, 08 March 2022 06:54 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hello,

I am currently working on desktop application security assessments and require some information regarding the version 4.16 of the eclipse IDE software.
Could you please provide me with the answers to the following questions?

  • Is version 4.16 still supported (will receive updates, security or otherwise)?
  • Are there any plans to discontinue this application (End-of-Life)?
  • Does this application collect application/event logs?

Thank you,
Mariana

No, in general only the most recently released version is supported and that support comes in the form of a subsequent release. E.g., 4.22 is the current release, 4.23 will be released next Wednesday, and the next release, 4.24, will be three months later, and so forth every three months. Here's the schedule for the overall Simultaneous Release:

I suppose you can consider every version end-of-life as soon as there is a newly released version. There is no maintenance support for older versions though I suppose if sufficient participants joined the working group such that there was sufficient interest and funding for such a thing, that would be possible:

I believe you're asking about log4j problems. The Platform SDK does not use any version of log4j, and never did. The Eclipse Simultaneous release 2022-03 next week, which includes Eclipse 4.23, does not use any CVE-affected version of log4j. It contains only these fixed versions:
 org.apache.log4j 1.2.19.v20220208-1728
org.apache.logging.log4j 2.17.1.v20220106-2156
