Eclipse IDE hangs in Download sources and associate classpath loop [message #1847068]

I am using Eclipse IDE for Java Developers with a multi module Maven project (via M2). Somehow it keeps looping on "download sources and javadoc" and "associate sources and javadoc with ...". That loop just burns my cpu. I cannot see if there is a particulare Maven module having trouble, or maybe a config issue or any other usefull clue. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong or what I could do to debug this?

This is also reported in Bug https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=576436, most likely it is caused by M2Eclipse https://github.com/eclipse-m2e/m2e-core.

You could add additional information to the linked issues, specifically dumping stack traces of the thread that are burning your CPU can be helpful in finding the root cause.
