Is there any plan for Java 17 in the 2021-09 release? Maybe delaying the release a bit or idk. I would like to use the new sealed classes and the JNI replacement in my favourite IDE

The work for supporting the next release of Java generally happens in a separate branch. E.g., this for on Java 17 right now

https://git.eclipse.org/c/gerrit/jdt/eclipse.jdt.core.git/log/?h=BETA_JAVA17

Eclipse's releases are on a fixed schedule independent from the Java release schedule. These releases will go on as planned:

https://wiki.eclipse.org/Simultaneous_Release

Each beta version has an associated build to produce 'patches' and as soon as Java release the final such a build is make available as a marketplace entry that can be installed into the latest release at that time, e.g., like this one for Java 16:

https://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/java-16-support-eclipse-2021-03-419

So you should expect that to be available when Java 17 releases....
