Is there a way to clear the configuration area before launching an RCP app? [message #1841588]

In Eclipse itself there is an option in the Launch Configuration tab to "Clear the configuration area before launching". If checked, this will delete the contents of the target configuration folder before launching the debug session.

We have a need in our RCP app to do this before the RCP app launches. Can this be achieved by means of a program argument or programmatically?

I don't mean the -clean option as this only cleans the org.eclipse.osgi folder. I'd like to clean out the whole configuration folder.
