Editing Reports (Running Linux on QNAP) [message #1839770]

I have a system that is generating reports from a php database so that they can be printed. I want to edit the format of these reports slightly. I have a .rptdesign file and a .rptdesign.xml file. I have tried editing the code in here but it doesn't change anything. Can anyone please help me in trying to edit the report design using BIRT? I've tried downloading the program and looking through the help online but it's not very clear.

Any help would be appreciated!
