Since VE doesn't support the Mac, is this suite unusable there?

Just FYI, the dependency on VE is not large, and not permenant. The reason
its a pre-req right now for IBM's contribution is for the JEM package,
which the VE team has just recently made available as a seperate download
from their website's download page. There's some question with current
versions of things exactly which versions of what are compatible but
eventually only the (common) JEM package will be a pre-req, if somone
doesn't have VE installed already. (And, yes, before you ask :) we'll be
exploring ways to make this pre-req situation easier and more automatic.)

As for the Mac in general, I'm guessing there will eventually be a more
official "position" given by the Webtools PMC, but suspect it will 1)
always be slightly different [there's not hardly any platform specific
code now, but might be one or two functions], and 2) the degree of its
support will probably be dependent on the whole WTP open source
community's commitment to supporting it, to testing it, etc. [in other
words, I doubt if the core development teams (that I know of) will have
the bandwidth to have dedicated developers that use it day to day.] But
.... if someone volunteers ... (hint hint)
