[Sysml] Operation vs Activity [message #1809787] Tue, 23 July 2019 08:38

Hi everybody,

lets say my system has the following functions:
- data collection
- data processing
- processed data transmission
- raw data transmission

I can model the system as a block and the functions as operations. Now a want to create a state machine and allocate the functions to some modes, e.g. in normal mode all functions are executed, but safe mode only data collection and raw data transmission are executed.

Drawing a state machine diagramm I encountered the issue that an operation cannot allocated as a do-activity to a state, but activites or functionBehavior do, which are type of an operation. More confusing is the fact that an activity cannot be allocated to more than one state.

What is the idea behind this concept?

Best regards,
H. Le
