How to change the font type and size in 4DIAC editors? [message #1803484] Fri, 01 March 2019 08:54 Go to next message

I can't change the font type and size in 4DIAC editors in Windows. Is it possible?
4DIAC editors use only system Windows font type and size.
It is not comfortable. In addition, the system "Windows 10" font type and size is not so easy to change.

AFAIK we don't use hard coded fonts in 4diac. Therefore it should be possible to adjust all fonts used via the Help->Preferences dialog. There are two places to look. The first is General -> Appearance -> Colors and Fonts the second one is StructuredText -> Syntax Coloring There you can adjust the font for the Structured Text editor. I hope this helps

Unfortunately, I can't change the font type and size in 4DIAC editors in Windows via this way.

I did some experiments by myself. It looks like that per default there is no setting from the fonts in our graphical editors. This is rather annoying.

Exactly. For this reason, the scheme looks different on different computers with different windows theme settings (rather because different system fonts).
For example:
System font - Tahoma 8 - Original version (3Screenshot_3.png)
index.php/fa/35011/0/

System font - Segoe UI 9 - On other computer (2Screenshot_3.png)
index.php/fa/35010/0/

Jep that is definitely a problem. I think the reason is not on the fonts but in another place. IEC 61499-2 clearly defines the coordinate system and sizes relative to the font sizes. We took a shortcut here. Making the diagram font setable would be a first step towards correctly drawing the diagrams on different screens and resolutions.

Open Simplicity IDE. Press Ctrl+3. Search for font Select Colors and Fonts. Many fonts inherit from the default font specified under the Basic category. To change text font commonly used in editors, select Basic Text Font Click Edit Change the font, font style, and size as desired and click OK prepaidgiftbalance.

I also tried several of the settings here and also come to the same conclusion as Lik Lik. I think there some work from our side is needed. Thanks for creating the bug entry [1]. I'll try to look into it into the next weeks.

A temporary solution is to use the font SegoeUI 9pt. This font looks the same in Win7, 8, 10 and it will be correctly drawing the diagrams on different screens and resolutions.
Besides, in win10 you only need to reduce the size of the system font (but through the regedit) without replacement the font.

We just merged a fix which should improve the correct look based on different fonts. See Bug 546635 [1] for details. If you upgrade your 4diac IDE to the nightly build (should be available tomorrow). I'm also working on making the font adjustable but I think this will take a bit more time.

Any suggestions what a good platform independent default font would be? Should it be a monospace font? Please put any comments to the bug for that issue [2].

Cheers,
Alois

In the latest 4diac IDE versions you can do this in the Preferences. Please see the attached screenshot for details:
