What is the best way to add comments to model elements? [message #1776937] Wed, 22 November 2017 22:05 Go to next message

Hi,

is there a way to add textual descriptions to, e.g., a composite state
or a capsule to communicate the purpose or any assumptions or
guarantees informally?

Thanks

If you mean *any* text (not just assumptions/guarantees) then you can add a UML Comment to any element. In the Model Explorer select the element, right-click -> New Child -> Comment. Note that there are two different New Child menus: New Child and New UML-RT Child. The former is for any kind of UML element.

I guess text in UML Comments would not appear in the diagrams.

Is it possible to attach a text note to a model element in a diagram?

There is no Comment element in the palette, but you can drag the comment from the Model Explorer onto the Canvas, then select and hover over the Comment so that the connection end-points appear, and then drag a connection end-point to the element that you want to associate with the comment.

Hi,

Regarding visualizing comment elements in the diagram, apart from also having a tool on the palette for creating them, there are a few issues related to this. See bug 478628 and the bugs it depends on.
