Hi ,
I am a big fan of eclipse and I use it for work and home regularly.
I recently got a new sony vaio with windows vista on it and then started
the trouble.
The issue is that whenever I try to use the update manager to install or
update remote plugins, I get an error stating this
"Network connection problems encountered.Premature end of file" .
I run eclipse as an administrator and my filepath isnt too long(This is
known to mess up softwares on vista).
Eclipse is not present inside c:/program_files .
Wonder what I have to do.Its been weeks since I encountered this issue and
this is a big showstopper for me!
Please advice!

Eclipse update works for me on Windows Vista. Since we have not seen a
lot of complaints about update on Vista I suspect it works for a lot
of people. It seems likely that there is something unusual about your
configuration.
What have you done so far to try to discover what is unusual about
your configuration?

Well, I dont think that my platform is unusual in any sense. One thing I
have noticed is that even softwares other than eclipse like tortoiseSvn
that try to connect to remote sites fail with the same kind of errors.
Is there anything like elevated mode or something in which I have to run
eclipse?
Thanks,
Venkat

This suggests that the problem is with your network configuration in
general rather than anything specifically to do with Eclipse.
If other things are failing in the same way then you need to look at
what they have in common, especially in network configuration. If you
have any software that can access the update sites then you need to
look at what it does differently from the things that fail.

Check your Windows Firewall settings.
