Eclipse IDE for Java Developers - Installation failed with an error [message #1775482] Mon, 30 October 2017 15:03 Go to next message

Hello,

I'm new to java and I have to say that I want to use a simulator described as "The whole project is a eclipse java project".

So I got started from link below :
https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/

but then I understood that I've to first install "Oracle JDK 1.8.0" from link below:
ww.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

After doing so I still have problem for installing "Eclipse IDE for Java Developers"

I attached my installation log here.

Hope you can help.

Sara

You appear to be getting "java.net.SocketException: SOCKS : authentication failed" for files that should fail with a 404. The p2 framework tries different file extensions at a given site, e.g., content.xml, content.jar, compositeContent.xml, compositeContent.xml.xz, and so on, so the failures for http://download.eclipse.org/oomph/updates/milestone/latest/content.xml and for http://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/packages/oxygen/content.xml should not be authentication failures because those files don't exist in the first place, so should fail with 404. Perhaps you need to configure the network settings via the installer's menu. You could try just unzipping a package from https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/eclipse-packages/ and hoping that p2 will work properly for updates and installing new software...
