Eclipse don't start on MacOSX [message #1764579] Wed, 31 May 2017 08:17 Go to next message

Hi all!

After installation, I have a problem with starting Eclipse on MacOS Sierra (v10.12.4).

Eclipse starts with a splash screen "Eclipse neon.3", then a window asks to select a directory as a workspace.

After selecting the folder, a popup window say "An Error has occured See the log file /Users/matthieu/Eclipse/.metadata/.log"

Here is the logfile .metadata/.log :

Hi Matthieu Vesin,

From the log it says:
java.version=9-ea
which means Java 9 early access edition.
Java 9 has not been release yet. If that is intended, great! We need Java 9 testers before it is released in Sept 2017. see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=493761 for the details. However if you are on Java 9, I recommend sticking with Oxygen only for now.

If you just want to get on and use Eclipse, install Java 8, the most recent released Java.

Thanks
Jonah

PS If you didn't intentionally install a pre-release version of Java, can you share where you obtained it from? It may be useful to try to prevent that error in the future.
