Migrating to 2.11 [message #1752790] Fri, 27 January 2017 06:07 Go to next message

I'm planning to migrate a sizable DSL stack from Xtext 2.8.4 to 2.11.
What information should I read to prepare for a smooth migration?
I will certainly go through the release notes, and everything that's linked from there, but the latest I can find concerns 2.9.0. Does this mean, releases 2.10. and 2.11. require no actions for adoption? ;p

thanks,
Stephan

well this is a splitted question.

there is the old xtext generator and workflow. and there is the new one.
the old is deprecated in the newer version.
thus you should consider and update on this.
there is no migration guide

Hi Stefan,

the main change is definetely for 2.9, where the project structure and generator workflow changes. So you should follow the migration notes to adopt your project to the new structure. What I often do here is to create a new project and then take over all things from the old project.

Actually, I am not aware of important changes in 2.10 and 2.11 which need migration. Besides the fact that you are not allowed to use Java 7 anymore.

Of course, if you face some problems or things worth to mention we would happily extend the documentation and help you immediately.

Please find a preview on the 2.11 release notes here: https://github.com/eclipse/xtext/blob/website-master/xtext-website/_posts/releasenotes/2017-01-24-version-2-11-0.md
For 2.10 it is still missing. But it was the second but last smallest release anyway.
