Neon fails to install on Ubuntu 16.04 [message #1749581]

Hello,

On my fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 the java-neon installer fails with no specific message:
- in normal install mode the installation process starts, then the GUI comes back to the INSTALL button;
- in advanced mode, it ends with the message "Task execution was canceled. Press Back to choose different settings or Cancel to abort."

I have tried with both the openjdk8 and the Oracle jdk. I have also tried with and without the "Mirrors" option, following a comment on this forum. No success either. Everything else is set to the default values.

Yes, you'd be better to post this on the Oomph forum.

Someone else complained about something with similar symptoms on the Oomph forum. Perhaps there's a clue (an exception stack trace) in the installer's error log. That should be in a *.log in the configuration folder of the installer. Does this also happen if you install into a new clean/empty folder?

Someone opened this bug. https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=508945 I can't reproduce it. I needs someone's installer log file.

Ok, I will post it on the installer's forum.

All attempts were made on new folders.
As for the log file, its content is exactly the same as what I posted. It's the only file remaining after the crash, and it's located in eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.oomph.setup/setup.log

I attach it here, just in case.
