Supplementing the UML constructs in Papyrus [message #1742671] Tue, 06 September 2016 10:02 Go to next message

Hello! I have a project in which I am going to create a tool for a risk assessment language. For this purpose I have chosen to create a plug-in for the Papyrus platform. However to achieve this I have to add some additional messages types, message label types, lifeline types and a label type for UML sequence diagrams. Any pointers as to how I can achieve this?

I would appreciate any ideas or thoughts on the subject.

Hi Vetle,

The customizability of the Papyrus platform is one of its strong points.

There is already an example of customization available for Papyrus for Information Management. Check out the customization guide that was created as part of the creation of that product. I think you would find it useful!

Thank you Charles. This guide provides great information as to how I can customise a number of things in the Papyrus IDE to suit my purpose. However in this guide there is a need for a subset of the UML specification. So they only restrict the spec, only allowing their subset to show in their Information management tool.

I would like to know how I can add my own constructs to supplement the UML specification. Specifically for UML Sequence Diagrams, where you have a number of message types. I would not like to create a new stereotype for a message, but to actually change the graphical notation as well. The graphical notation used in the risk assessment language. Can this be easily done? What extension points would I have to use?
