[buckminster-dev] Where can I find buckminster.core 1.1.350.r10332? [message #33437] Wed, 03 June 2009 04:47 Go to next message

Hi!

I am trying to follow this:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Buckminster_Galileo_Builder

Unfortunately, I cannot install the Galileo Builder because it requires
buckminster.core 1.1.350.r10332 which I cannot find on any update site.

Any hints?

Regards,
Torsten

Hi Torsten,
Everything needed by the Bucky builder (including the bundle you refer to) is available from this update site:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/buckminster/tools-3.5/

Are you mixing the Bucky builder with other, perhaps older, Buckminster installs?

Regards,
Thomas Hallgren

Hi Thomas!

Possibly. I got a newly unpacked Workbench, just installed the Galileo
Builder from the URL you mentioned and there you go. Thanks and sorry
for bothering you.

Though what's a bit confusing for me is that the update site only
*shows* me the Galileo Builder in the "Install Software" dialog, though
it contains all the other features I need as well. That might have been
what have made me think I first need to install Buckminster itself and
got and old version.

Build is running now ...

Thanks for the fast answer!

Regards,
Torsten

That's what you get when trying to simplify things :-)

But I agree, it would be great if you could open up a feature to see what it actually contains during the process of
selecting features.

Good, then all is well.

Hi again!

> Good, then all is well.

Sort of ...

Adding child meta-data repository
http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/m2m/updates/milestones/
org.eclipse.equinox.internal.provisional.p2.core.ProvisionEx ception:
Unable to read repository at
http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/m2m/updates/milestones/ content.jar.
Caused by: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed outAdding child

repository found at

http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/m2m/updates/milestones/

Looks like the m2 repo has a problem right now.

Then later

Unable to find org.eclipse.galileo.feature.group/1.0.0.qualifier since
its repository definition is missing

Just asking another question:

Should the "Galileo Builder" not be called more accurately "Galileo
Packager"? I mean, IIUC, it does not *build* (compile, jar, ...) the
components but it just grabs them from different update sites and
re-packages them, doesn't it? Or do I misunderstand anything here?

Regards,
Torsten

You need to run with -brandingContribution Galileo to make the builder understand that the feature contributed by
Galileo itself is incomplete. It's assembled from bundles that are built from source in order to support the old scheme
of providing 'capabilities'. It's a compromise that we had to put in to make life easier for the contributors. I'm not
overly happy about it and it's unlikely that this approach will survive post Galileo.

The new name (post Galileo) will most likely be the Buckminster Aggregator.
