How to multi-user windows installation? [message #1733820] Wed, 01 June 2016 04:34 Go to next message

Yeah, how does this work with eclipse?
I installed it somehwere where every user can start it. Yet, if i start it with any other user then the one who installed it, i get this weird "Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library." Except when i start it explicitly with administrator privileges.

It seems either the installer or eclipse itself stores some crucial data into the personal folders of the users who installed it, or something like that, but i don't know. I don't care actually either. Just want a multi-user-install.

The installer by default produces an installation based on bundle
pools. In the last two weeks I fixed two problems related to being
able to roam an bundle-pool based installation (rename/move the
installation folder after it's created) as well as to support read-only
bundle-pool based installations; the latter is needed for the scenario
you describe to work. This latest version of the installed is for the
Neon stream which will release later this month. But you can try it
out from here:

https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index-developer.php

If you switch to advanced mode, you can "keep the installation" and
thereby unlock the catalogs to be able to install Mars with it. I've
tested it extensively, so expect it should work, but early feedback
before next Wednesday would perhaps allow me to fix any remaining issues.

Note also that you can disable the bundle pooling to produce an
installation that looks just like you'd get when you unzip a download.
