Ultra giga slow editor for big Xbase DSL model [message #1729228] Tue, 12 April 2016 06:01 Go to next message

Hi,

we have a Xbase based DSL and in one project the model is growing. It has now about 150 files with maybe 50.000 loc.
During the modeling the editors gets slower and slower. Now opening a editor may take up to 20minutes !!! Very often Eclipse hangs and we need to terminate it.
Also just closing Eclipse hangs in 80% or takes up to one hour.

We cannot see any reason in our code producing this.

Another strange things is that often some error markes stay on a build, so that model file is not generated. When opening that file the errors are going away immediately.

This is really annoying as the productivity of an 8hours workday is now 7h waiting and 1 hour modeling. I started to work in text editors now and just refresh Eclipse when I'm done.

Does anybody else has this behaviour for bigger Xbase grammars?
Is this a known performance issue?
Any other ideas where I can have a look at?

Thanks a lot anyway for that great project.
~Ingo

Hi Ingo,

this is not a known performance issue. Xtend is built on Xbase and doesn't slow down like that with the given figures.
Someone needs to profile your application to tell what is causing the issues.

Sven
