I wanted to find out if I can use COAP for communication with the item just as Wemo uses socket for communication with their products in their binding.

Thank you. The reason why I was asking was because I wanted to use Mqtt and someone said I don't really need to develop my own binding.

I had some thought about using Leshan inside of Openhab to get COAP support, so I am interested in knowing how you plan to continue! Right now i have done some tests where I can use the lechan client to get Openhab populated with LwM2M objects!
