Can't install eclipse [message #1713652] Thu, 05 November 2015 13:12 Go to next message

Hello, I downloaded the files eclipse -inst-win64 and jdk-7u79-windows-i586.

Installed java first and then tried to install eclipse, but it opens the browser giving me the messaje "java for windows missing", as you can see in the picture.

I tried installing different versions of java , uninstalling them, etc. but eclipse is not installing, it keeps showing that error. Sad

Help me please, thank you in advance.

Just because your OS is 64-bit does not mean that the version of Java you installed is 64-bit. 32-bit applications (including Java and Eclipse) can run just fine on 64-bit systems.
The real requirement, as described in the announcement message that Russell referred to, is that the bit-ness of Eclipse and Java match, regardless of your system OS bit-ness.

I read the post. No useful info (it refers to problems running, not installing).

I have a 64 bit Windows 10 Dell laptop. I've installed the JDK for 64 bit windows, but trying to run the eclipse installer keeps sending me to a page telling me to install 64 bit java. I follow the link and install 64 bit java, and then it just shows me the message again.

So far hating the world of Java development! ;)

Whose 64-bit Java? Different builds may or may not set the information that the installer is searching for.

Where is your Java installation physically located on your machine? I.e., what's the absolute path for the java.exe of that Java installation? What does "echo %JAVA_HOME" print when executed on a cmd.exe command line? What does "java -version" print when executed on a cmd.exe command line?

It's possible that the installer doesn't find the Java version you have properly installed. Thought that seems unlikely, I'd really like to get to the bottom of such a problem and can only do that if you provide some more details.

Did you try the installer?

So you downloaded and ran this?

https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/oomph/epp/2020-03/R/eclipse-inst-win64.exe

And that and and finished successfully?
