How to reset diagram validation errors [message #1699670]

I defined a validation rule with an audit but without a fix. I ran validation on the diagram so the errors are marked. I corrected the errors in the semantic model by editing the properties view on the erroneous elements. Now I want the error markers removed from the diagram. I tried re-running the diagram validation but the errors still show on the diagram. Is there a way to get rid of these short of creating a new diagram or do I have to use a fix in the validation rule? My users may not always want to fix errors this way especially on very large models.
