find references slow [message #1699436] Wed, 24 June 2015 06:36 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Version: Luna Service Release 2 (4.4.2)
Build id: 20150219-0600

I noticed find references (CTRL + SHIFT + G) is a number of times slower. It used to be really quick, under a second. Now it takes over 20 seconds. The progress bar quickly gets to half way then stays there till the search is finished.

I wondered if it might be my workspace, so I tried tidying it. Then I tried creating a new workspace with just the one project. I then re-installed eclipse. Still slow.

Any ideas?

Degradation from 1 sec to 20 sec. is certainly worth investigation.

Can you reproduce the difference with two installations that only differ in the Eclipse version? (Same set of plug-ins installed? Identical workspaces?)

If you succeed to reproduce in this way, the workspace and your exact configuration should provide a good test bed for performance analysis.

OTOH, a degradation of this magnitude is more likely to be caused by a fundamental difference (different plugins, different configuration).

Additionally, it would be good if you'd test whether Mars (released yesterday) suffers from the same problem!

best,
Stephan

Apologies, forgot to update forum.

After some asking around it turns out to be Panda anti-virus. When hitting ctrl+shift+g Panda would kick in and block.

I've ended up killing Panda. I might be exposed to viruses but at least I can actually do something now!!
