Always Open Files with Default Editor [message #1698806] Wed, 17 June 2015 20:53 Go to next message

I generally use Eclipse's Java editor to edit Java files but from time to time I use Emacs if I want to do some more sophisticated text editing. I open with Emacs by adding it as an external editor. Eclipse's Java editor is set as the default editor.

Every time I open a file with the external editor, then next time I open that file Eclipse will always open the file with that editor instead of the default one. How do I make it so that the default editor is always used to open files rather than the editor I opened the file with last time?

I don't think there's a preference to control that behavior. But you can right-click and choose Open With > Default Editor to change it back to use the default editor when you open the file from then on.
