Dear all,

I'm trying to figure out on which version of Solaris Eclipse is supposed
to be officially running. The eclipse download site says Solaris 8 for
3.3, but on the release notes of the package, only Solaris 10 is
mentioned. Is there a reason for the difference ?

Thanks,

Quentin

Not sure, but if I look at the plan, I notice that Solaris 10 is mentioned.

http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/development/eclipse_project_p lan_3_3.html

Sun Solaris 10, SPARC, GTK running:

* Sun Java 2 Standard Edition 5.0 Update 11 for Solaris SPARC

Thanks for the info - so is the mention of Solaris 8 on the download
site some kind of outdated information ? Solaris 8 was part of the
release notes for earlier versions, e.g. 3.1...

Solaris 10 is the reference platform, meaning it's the one that is tested
and supported. It's also the easiest case from the user's perspective
because this is the first version of solaris that shipped with gtk.

Eclipse should also work on Solaris 8 and 9, but note:
- these require the client to install the gtk packages (2.2.x or newer)
and their dependencies
- these are not tested as part of the regular test cycle

Also note the following, which will enable you to use motif instead of gtk
on Solaris 8 or 9, and therefore don't require any additional package
installation:
- the RCP SDK and SWT Binary are still regularly built for solaris-motif,
so if you just have an RCP app or SWT app that you wish to deploy on a
Solaris 8 or 9 then these should work for you
- if you really want to use eclipse and don't mind using an older
version, the last release that is available for solaris-motif is 3.1.2,
which is available from
http://archive.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.1.2-2 00601181600/index.php
