The very first time you start Oomph, the product catalog is empty. On the second start it is filled.

This is happening using the release 1.0.0. I have seen it on many users machines and experienced it myself, but I don't know how to reproduce it.

I remember having seen a discussion about this long time ago possibly in relation with the caching!

A lot has happened since 1.0.0. Can you test that with the newest version of the installer?
