No "Universal Test Client" included in IBM's WTP initial contribution? [message #31044] Sun, 25 July 2004 06:00 Go to next message

Hi all.

I have had experience with IBM's WSAD 5.x. And I felt that the
UTC(Universal Test Client) was so cool. With UTC, it's really easy to
play(or test) with EJBs I've just created.

And today, I'm going testing IBM's WTP initial contribution.(btw, thanks
to IBM. I love you guys.) But, it seems like the UTC is missing. I've
confirmed that as there is no UTC plugin("com.ibm.etools.utc*") exist at
all.

Is there anything I missed? Is UTC replaced with, let's say, "J2EE
Component Explorer"? "Web Services Explorer" in Web Services Tools seems
much like as UTC.

I'm hoping to see UTC, or it's replacement, soon again.

Thanks.

Hi Uijin,

First of all, as a developer of the UTC, let me say "thanks!". It's nice to
hear that people use WSAD and find our tools useful.

The reason that the UTC is not in the initial WTP contribution is the same
reason a lot of the other WSAD tools are not - they are part of a shipping
product that we charge money for. While we want the WTP to succeed and will
do as much as we can to help, we also have to take things slowly and not
give away everything.

I will let you know that the decision to contribute or not contribute the
UTC was not as easy one, with people arguing on both sides. It is possible
that the initial contribution may not be the last word either. As the WTP
gains momentum, feedback from users or critical holes in function that we
can help with might cause us to reconsider contributing some small features.

And BTW, I am currently using the IBM WTP contribution to build the next
version of the UTC. :)

Thanks,
