Compatibility Layer: use another Layout for Shell? [message #1625633]

Hi everybody,

is it somehow possible to use the compatibility layer and set another layout on the shell? I know how to get the appModel and also found the shell itself, but as soon as I change the layout everything is pretty much messed up.
Anybody ever done something like this?
