Build to Manage

Overview

Today's IT infrastructure is more complex than ever. Even 'basic' applications involve multiple layers of middleware, databases, HTTP servers, etc. These environments tend to be very heterogeneous, consisting of technology from multiple vendors as well as open source. The Build to Manage (BtM) toolkits make it easy for developers to add manageability to distributed Java applications. Each Build to Manage toolkit focuses on a different facet of the manageability opportunity. Industry standards, e.g. JMX, ARM, WSDM, are leveraged in order to provide the highest degree of integration with enterprise management solutions.

The Built to Manage toolkits are available as tech previews as a part of the Eclipse Test & Performance Tools Platform (TPTP) project.

  • ARM, JMX, and Common Base Event
Summary:   Build to Manage instrumentation adds support to the TPTP collector framework to help instrument code using ARM, JMX, or Common Base Event. ARM measures application availability and performance. It collects response times and application-detected errors, with sampling used to lower data collection overhead.

  • WSDM
Summary:   WSDM (Web Services Distributed Management) is an open standard that enables holistic, standards based remote resource management. This component of TPTP primarily provides tooling for the modeling of resource manageability characteristics, generation of WSDM compliant endpoints and deployment/testing of developed endpoints. It also extends the Managed Agent Explorer to interact with WSDM resources including visualization of service groups and relationships and adds a WSDM provider to the Notification broker framework for receiving WS-Notifications.
