THE ECLIPSE TEST AND PERFORMANCE TOOLS PLATFORM

PROJECT (TPTP) ANNOUNCES 4.0 GENERAL AVAILABILITY

Streamlined JUnit Testing and Performance Tuning

Improved Scalability for Large Data Volumes

Support for Large Development Teams

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA –July 25, 2005 –The Eclipse Test and Performance Tools Platform (TPTP) Project today announced the release of TPTP 4.0.  Advanced tools and features have been included that addresses the requirements of enterprise applications and developers working with test and performance tools.  TPTP continues to advance as a platform with improved usability and extensibility, along with its ability to support additional operating systems and hardware platforms.

"Eclipse TPTP 4.0 provides a robust, feature rich platform for building world class, interoperable software test and performance tools, and continues to provide the extensibility required for vendors to differentiate their offerings," stated Tyler Thessin, project lead for the Eclipse TPTP Project and engineering manager for Intel Software Development Products. "If earlier versions of TPTP did not meet your needs, now is the time to give TPTP 4.0 a second look and join Intel and other TPTP contributors to define and implement further extensions and improvements."

Improved and expanded support for the JUnit regression testing framework is provided in this release.  This increased support allows a streamlined unit testing process by TPTP tools for writing, importing and defining test behavior.

Improved usability and sophisticated filtering capabilities have also been added to the performance and monitoring tools to enable users to quickly isolate problems. Other GUI capabilities further enhance the developer’s ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

TPTP 4.0 scalability to handle large data volumes and process large numbers of transactions has been improved.  The usage of a database as a persistence mechanism for certain logs enables large-scale log analysis to take place.   In addition, significant performance improvements will support large development teams with faster startups, more responsive user interfaces and smaller memory requirements.

TPTP 4.0 is available for download from www.eclipse.org/tptp/.

About Eclipse Test & Performance Tools Platform Project

The Eclipse Test and Performance Tools Platform (TPTP) Project provides an open platform supplying powerful frameworks and services that allow software developers to build unique test and performance tools—both open source and commercial—that can be easily integrated with the platform and with other tools. The TPTP Platform addresses the entire test and performance lifecycle, from early testing to production application monitoring, including test editing and execution, monitoring, tracing and profiling, and log analysis capabilities. The platform supports a broad spectrum of computing systems including embedded, standalone, enterprise, and high-performance and will continue to expand support to encompass the widest possible range of systems. Full details of the Eclipse Test & Performance Tools Platform Project are available at www.eclipse.org/tptp/.

About the Eclipse Foundation

The Eclipse Foundation is a not-for-profit member-supported corporation that hosts community based open source projects. Eclipse creates royalty-free technology and a universal platform for development tools integration, modeling, testing and functionally rich application construction. Eclipse-based offerings give developers freedom of choice in a multi-language, multi-platform, multi-vendor supported environment. Eclipse delivers a dynamic plug-in based framework that makes it easier to create and integrate technology, saving time and money. By collaborating and sharing core integration technology, providers can concentrate and focus on areas of expertise and differentiation. The Eclipse Platform is written in the Java language and comes with extensive plug-in construction toolkits and examples. It has already been deployed on a range of development workstations including Linux, HP-UX, AIX, Solaris, QNX, Mac OS X and Windows-based systems. Full details of the Eclipse Foundation and white papers documenting the design of the Eclipse Platform are available at http://www.eclipse.org/.
