Open Healthcare Framework (OHF) Project
Implementation of IHE Profiles: PDQ

About IHE PDQ Implementation

Healthcare interoperability begins with patient identification. The PDQ Integration Profile is defined to return patient identifiers that meet provided demographic criteria. OHF currently supports:

  • ITI-21: Patient Demographics Query Transaction

Patient Demographics Consumer
Supports the Patient Demographics Query (ITI-21) Transaction which queries for a list of patients and patient identifiers across systems using known demographic data.

Should I query for a patient using PIX or PDQ?

At the IHE Connectathon it is common for a vendor to implement either the Patient Identifier Cross-Reference Consumer (PIX) or Patient Demographics Consumer (PDQ), but not both - though it is not prohibited. In choosing which query to implement, ask what information the system will have about the patient. If the system has a local ID that has been registered with the PIX registry, use PIX. If your system has only demographic data, use PDQ.
