g-Eclipse Project - Downloads

The g-Eclipse project has released version 1.0 of the g-Eclipse framework. Please follow the instructions on the bottom of this page. There you will find information on how to install the release or latest milestone build. If you need information about the source code and where to get it from, you can find the necessary information on the contributing page.

The g-Eclipse team maintains its own build server that is used for nightly builds and tests. The latest builds can be found on this server.

IMPORTANT: Getting connected to your Grid middleware

We keep a list of available Grid middleware specific implementations that are build upon the g-Eclipse framework. Please have look at them and give them a try. You must install one of them to use g-Eclipse!

Installing the stable version (0.5) and the latest release (1.0)

First you have to download and install a Platform Runtime Binary; g-Eclipse 0.5.0 is tested with Eclipse 3.3 (Europa), while from 1.0 Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) is needed.

The 1.0 release build is available from the g-Eclipse Update Site at http://download.eclipse.org/technology/geclipse/updates/1.0/.

The 0.5 release build is available from the g-Eclipse Update Site at http://download.eclipse.org/technology/geclipse/updates/0.5/. Both require that external dependencies can be installed from the Eclipse Europa and Ganymede/Galileo Discovery Sites.

  1. Start your Eclipse and open the Eclipse Update Manager with Help > Software Updates > Find and Install...
  2. In the Install/Update wizard choose Search for new features to install
  3. On the next wizard page add the g-Eclipse Update Site http://download.eclipse.org/technology/geclipse/updates/0.5/site.xml with the New Remote Site... button
  4. Include both - the g-Eclipse Update Site and the Europa Discovery Site in your search and press Finish
  5. After scanning the different udpate sites you will get a list of new features that are available. Select all g-Eclipse features.
  6. Due to a bug in the Update Manager you have to open/expand the list of available features from the Europa Discovery Site; then you can add the missing feature dependencies with Select Required
  7. Press Next and accept the terms in the license agreement. Follow the wizard that will download and install all necessary features and plug-ins. Depending on your internet connection this may take some time
  8. After all features have been installed Eclipse must be restarted.
  9. You will need an implementation for your specific middleware. A list with available implementations can be found in the wiki.
  10. Now open the the g-Eclipse (User) perspective and start the Getting Started With g-Eclipse cheat sheet (Help > Cheat Sheets...)
