Of course it is compliant with Eclipse Helios, since this is the current stable release.
Then how come when I try to install egit on Eclipse 3.6 from update site or marketplace, I get...
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: Eclipse Git Team Provider 188.8.131.52310021548-r (org.eclipse.egit.feature.group 184.108.40.206310021548-r)
Missing requirement: Eclipse Git Team Provider 220.127.116.11310021548-r (org.eclipse.egit.feature.group 18.104.22.168310021548-r) requires 'org.eclipse.core.runtime [3.7.0,4.0.0)' but it could not be found
So how about how to install egit on eclipse 3.6 instead of "Of Course it is"
Wise or not i never said i expected anything. Eclipse 3.6 was in that time frame and specifically referenced. Ok fine 3.1 is not compatible with Helios, got it and fine. However the curt answer "of course" doesnt quite fit with the helios marketplace and your update site cant figure that out. It not worth the trouble. Subversion works just fine without the hassle.

Notice the date of the reply. That was a year and a half ago. Current release is most
likely not compatible with Helios. EGit is compatible with the current and previous
release, i.e. Juno and Kepler (as of this writing).
