Installing SWT [message #441777] Wed, 25 August 2004 00:18 Go to next message

This may seem like a stupid question, but how do I install SWT into the
eclipse environment? I can locate and download the SWT zip file, but where
do I unzip it and what do I need to do to "integrate" it into eclipse?

Actually this brings up a more general question. Does it seem difficult to
find useful information in the eclipse.org web site? I've tried to find
answers to various questions, and I can't find anything to help me out on
the site. It appears that I have to post questions on a news or mailing
group such as this one to get answers of use to me.

Every eclipse plugin is installed with just unziping the ziped file in the
ECLIPSE_HOME directory. There is also some articles about swt in
http://eclipse.org/articles/index.html. I offer you to read it.

SWT is already installed in the Eclipse environment when you install
Eclipse, so you don't need to download it separately or install it if
you've already downloaded and installed Eclipse.

Presumably, the separate SWT download exists for those who don't want to
use Eclipse for SWT development.

Hi, Joe.

Perhaps this link will help. It's the SWT "Getting Started" page:
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/~checkout~/platform -swt-home/SWT_Resources.html

I'm not exactly sure I understand your question, but I think perhaps you
might be able to answer it yourself if you try running an SWT snippet or
two.
On the page I just gave you, there is a link to a bunch of SWT snippets that
you can look at..
The page I gave you also has a link on it that points to how to run SWT
snippets inside eclipse.
Try that out with a few of them, and then write a snippet or two of your own
and run them.

Then you can look at the other stuff on the page, like links to doc, books,
articles, tutorials, etc., etc.....

Have fun!
Carolyn
