I have a diagram in which I show components very similar to the logic
diagram. I provided ways to layout the components in tree layout. After
the layout I would like the diagram to have different background color for
different portions of the tree. For example in the tree layout - if there
are 6 levels of nodes shown, then I want to display top two levels in
green color, next two levels in blue and next two levels in red color.

Is it possible to color code the diagram this way? Any help will be
appreciated.
